FIRE NEWS: ATHENS, Greece - A raging wildfire bore down on Athens' northern suburbs Sunday, prompting panicked residents to battle the flames with tree limbs and buckets, and local police to order 10,000 people to evacuate one town immediately. Frightened inhabitants gathered in the town's main square in early afternoon as flames closed in and police with loudspeakers directed everyone to leave immediately.
Some residents elected to stay behind and tried desperately to save their homes with hoses, buckets and branches. Planes swooped low over the town to pour water on the flaming houses.
Agios Stefanos deputy mayor Panayiotis Bitakos told Skai TV. "We had been begging the authorities since early in the morning to send forces ... It is too late now. Too late."
By mid-afternoon, half the town had burned and the streets were empty save for a few volunteers who were aiding firefighters. The charred houses smoldered and dozens of burned-out cars littered the streets.
‘Pine cones are like projectiles.’
"The pine cones are like projectiles — they cover long distances, too, and spread the fire around," said Avraam Pasipoularidis, mayor of the northern suburb of Drossia. "Everything around me is burning." The fires ignited late Friday; by Sunday they were reported across an area more than 25 miles wide.
Wildfire threatens your home! What should you do? Stay behind and try to fight it on your own? Or evacuate with your family to a place of safety and possibly loose everything that you have worked all your life to build? When dealing with the danger of wildfire, it's a question that many homeowners have had to face. "Shall I fight or flee?" Now, thanks to Barricade Fire-Blocking Gel, you, the individual homeowner, can protect - then evacuate, knowing that your home and everything in it will still be there when you return.
Last year, thousands of homes were consumed by wildfires and a lot of brave men were killed or badly injured while trying to save homes and farms from near certain destruction. The real tragedy is that 95% of these losses in both lives and property could have been avoided by recent advances in fire-blocking technology.
Fire Shield Texas is proud to announce that Barricade®Fire-Blocking Gel is now available in Texas to both homeowners and professional fire fighting agencies all across the Lone Star State. With the remarkable power of Barricade® on your side, scenes like this do not have to happen to your home.
Why water alone isn't enough to save your home:
- Common sense tells you that water will run off the exterior of your home the moment that you spray it on. Water evaporates within minutes, especially during our long, hot Texas summers. Wildfires can strike in both winter and summer. All it takes is dry weather conditions and a careless match, trash fire, a downed power line or lightning strike to start.
- Water alone can't 'stick' to your home. Barricade Fire-Gel does.
- Even if your house is built with brick siding, exposed glass windows and glass patio doors will shatter from the intense radiant heat of a wildfire, allowing burning embers to get inside your home. Aluminum or vinyl soffit vents will melt, providing an ideal pathway for fire to get into your attic. These are just two of the critical areas that must be protected to keep your home safe from wildfire...but how?
- If you rely on a well pump for your water supply, there won't be nearly enough water available to prevent a wildfire from reaching your home.
- In the event of a major wildfire, the odds of your local volunteer fire department parking in your driveway to save your home while other homes in your area are left undefended are exceedingly slim.
...What if there was some fast and effective way that you could create a thick "wet blanket" of fire-blocking foam and make it "stick" to the exterior of your home, wrapping your house in a fire-proof gel coating that would insulate and protect your home from wildfire for up to 24 hours? That is what Barricade Fire-Gel does!
How Barricade® Works:
When Fire-Gel is mixed with water at the end of your garden hose, the super-absorbent polymers in the gel concentrate soak up hundreds of times their own weight in water. Millions of water soaked molecules are trapped in the gel and suspended in liquid-filled "aqua-bubblets” that cling like layers of "wet sticky sponges" to the flammable surfaces of roofs, eaves, decks, porches, glass windows and the walls of your house, along with vehicles and explosive propane tanks. A protective wrap of Barricade Fire-Gel can be applied up to 24 hours in advance an approaching fire threat. Homeowners and their families can then retreat to a safe place, and limited firefighting resources can be fully focused on battling the wildfires, rather than on the already protected structures. Barricade® can be washed off your home with plain water after the fire danger has passed.
Recent wildfires in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and California have shown that even homes built of brick or concrete cannot withstand temperatures that can easily exceed 1,500 degrees. The proven and patented Barricade fire-blocking gel formula is made to provide unequaled fire protection for farm and home. Barricade has shown to be so effective in saving homes in California that the Los Angles County Fire Department, by law, carries it on every fire truck.
Barricade Fire-Blocking Gel was invented by John Bartlett, a veteran professional fire-fighter with the Palm Beach, Florida County Fire and Rescue Unit. Barricade gel is an environmentally safe, non-toxic, U.S. Forest Service, EPA and GSA approved product.
Can this house be saved? Yes! Barricade Fire-Gel stops wildfires cold!
Barricade® Fire-Gel is recognized, world-wide, as the most effective and easiest to use fire blocking product on the market. Requiring only an ordinary garden hose to apply, a typical home owner is now able to protect his home and vehicles from wildfire for a one-time investment of around $600.
Barricade Fire-Gel is also being used by farmers and ranchers all around the world to protect their barns, out buildings, propane tanks, tractors and other valuable equipment, when confronted by an approaching wildfire threat. Barricade is the ONLY liquid fire gel concentrate that contains no NPEs (nonylphenol ethoxylates), a potentially hazardous chemical ingredient found in other liquid concentrate gels.
Wildfires burn at over 1,500 degrees, consuming everything it its' path. That's hot enough to peel the paint right off this car and melt the aluminum wheels.
An actual letter from a grateful homeowner:
"Barricade saved our home. Everyone, including experienced fire- fighters, who has seen our house is amazed. There was no damage to the house at all - even the vinyl eaves were protected. It was as if the house had been sealed in a wet blanket, keeping it from burning and keeping the smoke and heat out."
